Tactical Retrenchment

Having defected from Team Starmer on a point of high principle cunningly camouflaged as a maritime rodentine evacuation manoeuvre, the Chancellor seems to be reining himself in a bit. The point of contention was a commitment to spend even more on wog-bombing, since the Ministry in question is one of those rare government departments that become self-evidently more efficient the more taxpayers' money is thrown at them. Doubtless owing to a loftier and more disinterested perspective on what is good for the country, the Chancellor has now decided that mugging other ministries to fund a few more procurement farces may have to wait until next year. Still, however much the Chancellor may disagree with himself, his small change is balanced by some encouraging signs of continuity with the previous incumbent; notably in the unswerving dedication to the Fiscal Rules of the Medes and Persians and the rhetoric equating the running of a national economy to the maintenance of a credit card account. It's to be hoped that this will be sufficient for the time being to dissuade the more gung-ho defenders of the realm from feeling duty-bound to overthrow the Government yet again.
