They Got the Job Done
An enemy of the people has ruled that the Government broke the law when it used the pandemic as an excuse to hand lucrative contracts to cronies, donors and some chap somebody met at a party. One company was smooched into the taxpayer-fuelled fast lane when its chair informed the Department for Profitable Healthcare that he had recently attended the birthday party of the procurement director's father-in-law. Doubtless at least one of them was under the impression that it was a working lunch. Subsequently, that company and another issued a principled defiance of red tape by supplying masks and gowns which failed to meet NHS standards; so naturally the judgement noted that, given the circumstances, they would have received the contracts anyway had Her Majesty's Government been so indiscreet as to consider them on their merits.
