This is important, according to scientists, because human beings depend on species for their present standard of living. Without species we wouldn't have drones, or homeless deterrents, or the National Rife Association. Fortunately, Barack Obama and the Pope have both made noises about the issue, which will certainly help; and in any case the information in question comes from mere scientists and contains nothing particularly new. That must be why Britain's leading liberal newspaper has filed it away nice and quietly under "Environment".
