Given how profitably the country's infrastructure has been degraded over the past few decades, it is natural enough that His Majesty's Government should have no particular interest in repairing it. Also, the spooks have informed Whitehall that they would quite like a war with Russia within the next half-decade or so, and forcing the Ministry for Wog-Bombing to orient its procurement towards national security rather than handouts to the chums might well provoke a military coup d'état. Hence His Majesty's Government is preparing a Protect and Survive régime to ensure that, in the event of foreign attack or climate calamity catching the nation unprepared, the little people will have nobody to blame but themselves. Those who cannot afford their own bunkers will be exhorted to utilise their excess cash and copious free space for the hoarding of vital supplies, thereby freeing His Majesty's Government to concentrate its own resources on bankers, water company shareholders, and others of society's most vulnerable.
