Covered With Dignity

From out the Palace comes the Sound,
Which Trembles Trees and Shakes the Ground
As, with a Dreadful Animation,
A Mighty Rumble stirs the Nation.

John Bull, his Wife and Children too
Stand round and wonder, What to Do?
What Englishman can Play the Game
With No-one Visible to Blame?

What is the Cause? What can it Be?
More Ructions of Economy,
Or does a Final Migrant Boat
Mean England cannot stay Afloat?

At last there Comes an Awful Roar,
Which Batters down the Palace Door;
Out spills a Tidal Wave of Brown,
Which Bears aloft th'Imperial Crown.

Far off into the Fragrant Sea
It sweeps John Bull and Family;
It Batters Britain Passing sore,
And Drowns above a Million More.

The Press, assembled Hereabout,
Give Voice to Patriotic Shout:
"Gawbless her Heart and Other Bits:
Her Majesty has got the Shits!"
